Refracted Light, intuitive geometry, and the wonder of crystalline form.
Russell Leng’s paintings begin where the natural and structural worlds overlap. The crystal formations inside minerals, the fracture patterns of ice, the geometric logic embedded into built environments.
The paintings are constructed the way crystals grow, one translucent layer after the next. The geometry is built through instinct, each decision made in reaction to the one before, until the forms find their own logic. This process allows light to enter the surface, move through, and escape again.
Created on the west coast of Canada, the work has attained a global reach. Commissions include paintings for Tiffany & Co., Pandora, and Mandarin Oriental.
